How it is counted, exactly
The 180-day window moves. It does not start in January, nor on the day of your first trip: on any given day you look back over the previous 180 days and count the days you were inside. That is why days come back one at a time rather than all at once.
The day you arrive and the day you leave both count in full. Landing on a Friday night and flying home on Saturday morning is two days, not one. It is the commonest mistake and the one that eats the most days.
The rule applies to the whole Schengen area, not only to Spain. Four days in Portugal and three in France come out of the same counter as your weeks in Ciudad Quesada.
What this service is NOT
This is a calculator, not a ruling. It counts the days you type in, using the 90-in-180 rule. If your dates are wrong the answer will be wrong: work from tickets and stamps, not from memory. The calculation that counts at a border check is the European Commission's, linked below, and the person who decides at the border is a police officer, not a web page. We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice.

Questions about this service
Do the day of entry and the day of exit both count?
Yes, both, in full. The time of day is irrelevant: a flight landing at 23:40 uses up the whole day.
Does this apply to Germans, Dutch or French owners?
No. The 90-in-180 rule applies only to third-country nationals: British, Russian, Canadian, American and so on. An EU or EEA citizen may stay as long as they like; past 90 days what they owe is a registration in the central foreigners' register, which is a different matter.
Why does my count differ from the official calculator?
Almost always for one of two reasons: a short trip is missing, or the exit day has been forgotten. Look again at the trips shorter than a week.
Do you keep my dates?
Not unless you ask. The whole calculation happens in your browser and nothing is sent. If you ask for the result as a PDF, we receive that result and your email address so we can send it to you (and the reminder, if you tick it). There is no account to create.
What if I have already overstayed?
The calculator tells you by how many days, and from when you may enter again. What you need from that point is a lawyer, and the first thing they will ask for is exactly this calculation, in writing.
