How do you book the NIE appointment?
Through the central cita previa system for immigration, and sometimes there is no slot.
The NIE appointment is booked through the administration's central system for «cita previa de extranjería». If your police office has no slot, you look on another day or at another office in the province.

Where to book it
On the Public Administrations' website, in the immigration appointments section, choosing the NIE assignment procedure before the police. It is free. Anyone who charges you for the appointment is charging for something public.
When there is no slot
It happens. There is no trick: you look again at another time, or at another office in the province that handles the same procedure. The Spanish Consulate in Miami says on its own page that, because of demand, the wait there is at least four weeks. It is one consulate, but it gives an idea of how the system is.
The December calendar
8 and 25 December 2026 are national holidays that no region can substitute, according to the Official Gazette. If you want it settled before Christmas, book in November.
