What happens if I overstay the 90 days in Schengen?

What has changed
Since 10 April 2026, entries and exits are recorded electronically. Before, an overstay could pass unnoticed if the stamp was illegible or nobody looked. Now a database keeps the count, and it does not depend on luck at the border.
The first step, and it is not calling anyone
It is knowing by how many days you have overstayed and from when you may enter again, in writing, with the real dates from your tickets. That count is exactly the first thing any lawyer will ask you for, and doing it is free here.
What comes after is a matter for a registered lawyer, not for us, and we will tell you so.
