Why this matters now
In the Valencian Community admission is filed online with the regional education department, and from the first step the file asks for the family's town-hall registration and the child's health cover, two papers the newcomer almost never has yet, applied for elsewhere and on another clock. Whoever arrives after the deadline goes through late enrolment, handled by the municipal office, which allocates a place where there is one, not where you want one. A minor's right to education does not depend on the parents' administrative situation: that is not in doubt. The particular school is.

Questions about this service
We arrive in October. Will the child have no school?
No. Late enrolment exists exactly for that and is handled by the municipal enrolment office. What changes is not the right but the choice: a place is allocated among those left, which is why it pays to be on the list on day one rather than day ten.
Does the child need to speak Spanish or Valencian?
Not to be admitted. Schools run language reception programmes and the language is worked on inside the school. What is worth knowing is which language your chosen school teaches in, because it varies in this region, and that is checked BEFORE setting your order of preference.
We have the birth certificate in English. Is that enough?
It almost always has to be translated by a sworn translator, and sometimes apostilled in the country that issued it, which can no longer be done from here. It is the paper that delays the most files, and it is the first one we look at.
